A Wave of Mega IPOs Is Coming

SpaceX is moving toward a public listing, and the numbers are enormous. The company is targeting a valuation around $2 trillion, with an IPO size expected between $40 billion and $80 billion. To put that in perspective, Saudi Aramco raised about $29 billion at its IPO, and Alibaba raised about $25 billion. SpaceX would be two to three times those amounts.

This is not just one headline. OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks, and other big private names are also lining up. Traditional markets are treating this as the return of animal spirits, but for crypto investors, it may create a different kind of pressure. The days of crypto being a closed ecosystem are over. Bitcoin has ETFs, stablecoins have exploded, and Wall Street has packaged crypto into US stock market narratives alongside Coinbase. Global smart money now moves inside one dollar pool, and that pool can buy Bitcoin ETFs, AI stocks, or a SpaceX allocation.

Crypto Is No Longer a Separate Pond

The problem is simple: risk budgets are finite, and the amount of money chasing high-return assets is limited. These super IPOs compete for attention and principal. When institutions have to choose between an established, compliant mega listing like SpaceX and a long-tail altcoin with a thin order book, the choice is usually easy.

The assets most at risk are not Bitcoin and Ethereum. Bitcoin is digital gold, and Ethereum is the public chain leader. Those two should survive the liquidity shift. The real pain will hit the long-tail altcoins, the tokens that are still mostly story and speculation.

The Hyperliquid SpaceX Contract Showed the Fragility

We already saw a preview of how this can go wrong. On the evening of the 28th, the SpaceX perpetual contract on Hyperliquid collapsed from $2,277 to $1,254 in about thirty minutes, a 45 percent drop. A total of 405 users and 1,393 positions were liquidated, with about $1.51 million in liquidations.

The contract's pricing mechanism was fragile. Daily trading volume was only $4.87 million, so one large market order could drain liquidity. A data error plus thin liquidity produced a stampede. That was just a synthetic on-chain contract. The real IPO could be a much bigger event.

The Real IPO Could Be a Bigger Shock

Analysts estimate that the current on-chain SpaceX price differs from the real IPO price by about 60 percent. SpaceX is expected to price on June 11 and begin trading the next day. At that point, all on-chain contracts will settle against the real valuation. If the on-chain price is still floating too high, we will see mass liquidations.

Before the IPO, there is no way to hedge that gap with real valuation data. The escape mechanism is broken. I am not bearish on crypto. Bitcoin is digital gold, and Ethereum is the public chain king. Those two I am not worried about. They may experience short-term volatility, but I do not expect major problems there.

The Market Has Money, but It Is Hot Money

This is not a market without money. Stablecoin supply is around $320 billion, near historic highs. But that liquidity increasingly behaves like hot money, not long-term buy side. Spot trading volume is weak, and derivatives now account for nearly 80 percent of activity. Everyone is trading short term, using leverage, or gambling on one move. Almost nobody wants to hold a story coin for three years.

If you are still holding a coin with zero real application, pure story, be careful. When US giants IPO, those vaporware tokens will have an even harder time finding buyers.

Three Changes I Expect for Altcoins

What we face is a crypto-style crisis: money exists, but nobody wants to buy your bags. There is another detail many people missed. In May, Nasdaq introduced a rule allowing eligible large new listings to be added to the Nasdaq 100 after only 15 trading days. That means SpaceX and similar IPOs could quickly attract passive fund buying, turning the IPO from a primary market event into a rebalancing event for the entire tech stock market. It could pull future capital from on-chain markets back into traditional finance.

  • Altcoin rebounds will get shorter. A bounce that used to last a week may now last two or three days.
  • New coins will launch and immediately dump, with few buyers willing to support the market.
  • Liquidity will concentrate in US mega IPOs. Only Bitcoin, Ethereum, stablecoins, and a few US stock concept coins will keep meaningful liquidity.

How I Am Thinking About My Own Positioning

I still hold Bitcoin because I believe it has real value and will change global finance. I do not sell on short-term noise. Before buying any coin, I think you should ask yourself three questions. Why am I buying this? How long do I plan to hold? If it drops 30 percent tomorrow, can I still sleep?

If you can answer those honestly, place your order and take responsibility for your judgment. Does the project have real users, real cash flow, and real application? If yes, waiting may make sense. If no, you may need to reconsider your exposure. This is not investment advice, just a way to survive in a difficult environment.

The Real Filter Is Value

The mega IPO wave is a reality check. Bitcoin and Ethereum are macro assets now and will follow US equity sentiment. The real filter will hit vaporware tokens and story-driven altcoins. Before you place your next order, ask yourself why you are buying and whether you can survive a 30 percent drawdown. That honest answer will do more for you than any short-term prediction.
