The question I hear over and over

My Telegram fills with the same message no matter how the market changes. You call me Old Li or Cédric, and you tell me you only have a few thousand USDT and ask how to flip it in this space. Frankly, every time I see that question I feel a little sympathetic because I know that if the underlying logic is wrong, those few thousand USDT are likely just tuition paid to the market, not real capital.

Some of you go further and say: Old Li, I work hard, I study charts fourteen hours a day, I learned SMC, candlestick patterns, ICT, MACD, why am I still losing? My answer may sound blunt: you are too excited. In a market like this, excessive excitement in the wrong direction is an accelerator for losses, especially for small accounts. So today, close the candlestick chart for a moment. We are going to talk about the three stages I went through from a few thousand USDT to my current position. These principles are invisible and hard to measure, but they determine the ceiling of your account.

Stage 1: Stop overtrading and pick one strategy

When I started trading, I was exactly like many of you. I had little capital but huge ambition. I woke up before 6 a.m., stared at charts until 3 a.m., slept only four or five hours. I watched the Asian session, the European session, the New York session. The result? I made a little money on the first three trades, got overconfident, and on the fourth trade my brain was already foggy. I saw a sharp drop, reacted without thinking, opened a long, and one pullback wiped me out.

That is how most beginners die in stage one: pure exhaustion. They think they are trading, but really the market is playing them. Your patience gets drained by meaningless fluctuations. What is left is emotional impulse and a target on your back. You lose with MACD, so you call it garbage. Next you try SMC, then ICT, then something else. Stop switching. Every strategy has its own rhythm and its own losing streak. It is like farming: if you try to grow watermelon in winter and it fails, the problem is not the seed, it is the season.

My first recommendation is simple: slow down, breathe, rest. If your capital is small, pick one strategy you know well and stick to it. If you trade forex or crypto futures, focus only on the few hours with the most volatility, like when the US session opens. The rest of the time, turn off the computer, sleep, work, play with your kids, spend time with family. In this market, only people who wait like a crocodile, patient and ready to bite, survive.

Stage 2: Protect your capital with a 2% rule

Once your strategy is fixed, the next step is survival. Many people lose because they bet too big. You win one trade, win a second trade, start feeling like a genius, then on the third trade you go all in to double up. One wrong move and you lose ten previous efforts.

I teach a hard rule: never risk more than two percent of your total capital on any single trade. Even if you only have one thousand USDT, every loss must stay under twenty USDT. Why? It is simple math. If you lose fifty percent of your account, you need to make one hundred percent just to get back to break even. That is brutal. But if you only lose two percent at a time, you can be wrong ten or twenty times in a row and still have your capital and your bullets. The moment you catch a trade with a good risk to reward ratio, you recover.

How do you build that mindset? Trade with small money, like five hundred or one thousand USDT. The day you deposit it, act as if it is already gone, or treat it as a utility bill. Each two percent stop loss is just the price of a skipped hot pot dinner. When you see money as a number game instead of your house or your life savings, your execution stops being distorted. It sounds strange, but when you stop caring about the outcome of one trade, you can finally make money consistently.

Stage 3: Scale your capital the smart way

If you have completed the first two stages, congratulations. You are now a qualified trader. But then comes the real question: you make ten percent a month, but your capital is only one thousand USDT. That is one thousand USDT a month, not enough to buy a house. This brings us to the third stage, the biggest mindset shift of all.

Many retail traders dream of turning one thousand USDT into ten thousand, then one hundred thousand, then a million through pure compounding. That is a fantasy. In this market, one black swan event can end that dream. The real approach is different. Once you have proven your system can earn a stable five or ten percent a month, your next move is not to push the gas pedal harder, it is to increase your capital base.

You have two choices. First, earn money outside crypto. Work a regular job, deliver food, do freelance work, whatever brings in risk free cash. Funnel that into your trading account. Build your capital to fifty thousand or one hundred thousand USDT. At that size, ten percent a month is ten thousand USDT, which is real money. Second, consider verified prop firm programs. Many platforms now exist, often called prop firms. You pass their evaluation to prove your skills, and they give you a one hundred thousand or two hundred thousand dollar account to trade. They cover the losses, and you keep eighty percent of the profits. That is leverage on your skill rather than on your capital.

Only inexperienced traders believe you can flip a tiny account quickly. Smart traders build a track record, then find ways to add capital. That is how you move from small money to whale status.

Why slow becomes fast in crypto

Trading is a lonely road. When you make money, people around you may think you are not doing real work. When you lose, you probably cannot even tell your family. But the truth remains: slow is fast. The first stage is about focusing on one strategy and cutting out noise. The second stage is about treating the two percent rule like a lifeline. The third stage is about using outside capital or prop funding to scale, not gambling your way up.

I cannot tell you which trades to open, and I cannot make your decisions for you. What I can tell you is that the path from a few thousand USDT to whale status is not mysterious. It is built through patience, discipline, and capital management.

The bottom line

If you are holding a few thousand USDT and feeling stuck, stop looking for a secret indicator. Fix your exhaustion, cap your risk, and find a realistic way to add capital. That is exactly what I did. The market will always be there, and the traders who survive are the ones who treat it like a long game rather than a lottery ticket.
