Mistake #1: Jumping In Without Preparation
I would say that 80 percent of people who get into crypto do so right after hearing about Bitcoin or Ethereum. They get excited by stories of people becoming rich overnight. But when you step into this world, you are not playing a game. You are spending your own money and hoping it will grow.
Every decision you make is about buying your future. If you do not take the time to understand the market, do research, and grasp the technology, you shoot yourself in the foot. This work is necessary, and it does not stop after the first week. It has to be constant.
Mistake #2: Neglecting the Security of Your Own Assets
I have seen too many people lose their crypto because of stupid human errors. There is no refund process. There is no email to recover your password. If you send crypto to the wrong address, lose your private key, or fall for a phishing site, your money disappears forever.
You have to take responsibility for the security of your assets. That is the only way to protect yourself in this market.
Mistake #3: Overtrading and the Grip of Greed
I have been guilty of overtrading myself. When you hope to make quick money, you tend to increase your leverage or multiply your transactions, even on days when you should not trade at all. Sometimes it works, but at that point it is closer to a bet. It becomes a casino.
You will never have enough. You will always be looking for the next opportunity, and that leads to costly mistakes. Never underestimate the power of greed. The danger often hides in unsatisfied desires.
Mistake #4: Trading Under the Influence of Emotions
This connects to the previous point, but it is worth separating. There are so many voices in this market: professional investors, influencers, traders, and plenty of people who think they can teach you crypto when they actually know nothing. With all that noise, it is easy to lose your own judgment and follow the herd like a sheep.
Whether you are in profit or in loss, your emotions can take over. They push you toward irrational decisions like revenge trading or taking crazy leverage. Do not become a victim of your emotions.
Mistake #5: Letting Fear Keep You on the Sidelines
You may know the fear and greed index. On one side there is greed, which we already covered. On the other side there is fear. Some people are afraid to invest because they fear failure or losing their assets. So they stay on the sidelines, watching and waiting for the perfect moment.
That is just as bad as greed. Too much is not good, but not enough is not good either. You need a plan, a long term investment strategy, and you adjust it along the way. That is how you find your path in this crazy market. Find the middle ground.
Mistake #6: Blindly Trusting Others and Skipping Your Own Research
DYOR, do your own research, is the mantra in crypto. But many people do not do any research at all. They think that following big names is the same as doing research, so they copy trade. At some point you have to ask yourself: how do you know these so called experts are really good?
Are you sure the person you follow on Twitter is not using fake screenshots or photoshopped images? How do you know they are telling the truth and not being paid by institutions or project teams to manipulate you? That worked well with Twitter stars in 2024. Are you sure they will never make a mistake? The answer is simple: no.
What you need is your own plan and your own methods. Trust yourself, not me or anyone else. Trust you.
The Investment That Changed Everything: Myself
Now I want to share the investment I consider the most powerful and most successful for me over the last seven years in crypto. It checks all the boxes we discussed. Drumroll: that investment is me. I invested in myself.
Beyond making me money, crypto made me realize that only investing in myself can make me invincible in this market. I keep studying every day, understanding new technologies, and boosting my knowledge. That has allowed me to prosper even in the most complex market conditions. Every decision you make is crucial, so working on your ability to decide is essential.
I still work on controlling my emotions and strengthening my mindset. I fight against the gambler mentality that I had before, and that remains. I adapt and find solutions. That ability makes me believe I could succeed even if I left crypto for another market.
If you want to enter this market, I want you to develop that same feeling of control. Control of yourself, control of your emotions. Do not think that crypto controls you. You control crypto. You are the captain of your ship. You can use crypto trading as a means to reach financial freedom, but do not cling to it like a lifebuoy hoping to survive. Believe that the crypto world can offer you more than you think, and understand that getting it depends only on you.
The Common Thread: Take Full Responsibility
All six mistakes share a common root. They come from a lack of preparation, a lack of security, and a lack of emotional control. Whether it is greed, fear, blind trust, or overtrading, each one happens when you give away your power instead of taking full responsibility.
Money attracts sharks. Wherever there is money to be made, there will be trouble. Crypto is even more intense. You have to adapt and change yourself to reach your goals. That is what I did, and that is what you can do too.
Invest in yourself first. Study constantly, secure your assets, trade with a plan, and trust your own research. That is the real ticket to surviving and thriving in crypto.
